    Default The Forum Rules

Sawte.com is “my voice and yours too”, we want everyone’s voice to be heard and for this purpose we encourage people from all walks of Lebanese life, politics and society to participate and debate in a civilised and constructive manner.

This forum will try to give the maximum freedom possible within the boundaries of decency and respect for others! That said, the simple rules below will help set the guidelines for fruitful debates by all participants.
    Rules and restrictions
    Freedom of speech
Every member has the right to say what he thinks. You should respect other peoples' views, no matter how much you might disagree with them. Posts that are clearly inflammatory or aggressive in nature are not allowed however. Respect goes both ways. You show us your respect, and we will return the gesture.
    No flaming and bashing
Making meaningless flame posts does not achieve anything. So try to control yourself and please post in a civilised manner. Any inflammatory content will be removed, and may result in a warning or ban if repeated.

No promotion of violent acts or inciting acts of aggression
Calling for violent actions in the forms of killing, kidnapping, bashing or any kind of civil unrest will not be tolerated. Although we understand the right of self-defence and the grief process but inciting violence in any kind and on any group or nationality will not be acceptable.

    No discrimination, racism or hate
We absolutely do not tolerate posts that are discriminating, racist or posts which imply hate to other members or to certain groups. You should respect everyone, no matter what their beliefs or personal lifestyle choice, no matter what country they are from, what their skin colour is, or what gender they are: Everyone is equal.
    No spam
Do not create threads where the idea is simply to make posts without any use at all. Spam posts and threads that are found outside of the spam forum, or that are too spammy even for the spam forum, will be deleted, closed or moved. Repeat offence may result in a warning.
    No pornographic or shock images
This is a Lebanese forum and it reflects our own values, so pornography does not belong here. The same goes for shocking or gruesome images or any other pictures with lots of gore. Any posts with pornographic or shocking content will be deleted immediately. Depending on the seriousness a warning may be issued immediately or after repeat offence.
    No warez or pirated content
This board does not promote illegal software, music or content in any way, and as such, no warez/illegal material is allowed on this forum. Threads/posts containing references to illegal software, music, movies, etc. will be removed.

    Signature and avatar
A signature may not be any larger than 600x350 pixels. Staff and Administrators have the right to edit or remove an avatar or signature that does not adhere to the rules or deemed offensive, WITHOUT WARNING beforehand or afterwards. If, after it has been edited, you simply restore your signature or avatar to its original state, you will receive a warning.

    Guidelines
    Keep on topic
A thread is created for a specific purpose, be it a question, statement or otherwise. If you want to say something relating to an existing thread, say it in that thread. If the discussion in a particular thread wanders off too far from the original intention, create a new thread. Threads that continue to veer off topic will be closed or split, depending on the situation.
Do not repeat what has been said
Do not start a new thread unless you are certain that there are no previous threads about the same, and that you are not simply repeating what has been said in an older thread. Do not simply repeat yourself either. If a thread you created gets little attention, don't post another identical thread and do not repeatedly post in your thread in an attempt to draw attention, just leave it. There is probably a reason people have not posted in your thread in the first place.

Do not post in old threads
Do not post in threads that have not been active for 28 days. This rule does not apply if the topic is still on the first page of the subforum list.
    Political Discussions
Political discussions are allowed in the Political Area and only in the Political Area, any political content outside the Political Area will result in a warning.

Finally, please remember the old adage wrongly attributed to Voltaire : “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" (Evelyn Beatrice Hall), keep it as your motto and defend to the right of the “others” to be different.

    excellent ...

i have one question... what about promoting violence? e.g. calls to kidnap, torture, kill, wage a war.... shouldn't it be included with the "no discrimination, racism or hate" paragraph?

    Dear Admin,

With all due respects, what's the use of rules, or any forum for that matter when some truly despicable characters are allowed to barge in and brazenly insult people for the simple fact that they cannot tolerate a situation where their political conviction is under attack?

The thread that was addressing the Ein El Remmaneh attacks is a live proof that when such bad elements are allowed in and without any checks, they are bound to disrupt altogether a thread if not the whole forum, and why? Because they do not enter to debate but rather to insult, belittle, derogate and anger with the sole purpose of entirely derailing a thread.

I was a member of the Lebanese Forces Forum in which the main mod is Cedars or M.N. Mods will attests that people like me have left the forum in total disgust because of such unruly elements who have little else but to barge in and insult others to the very bone marrow.

Rules are a necessity, but also when civility cannot be exercised by some members then that too becomes a serious liability from which the desire to participate by those decent members gradually dies, to the point where post fatigue takes its place.

My advice is to watch closely these weird characters for the overall good of this forum, that is if it doesn't want to join the others down the drain.

    With all my respects.

Political conviction? There was a kid spewing hate speech against an entire sect and inciting for violence. He had to be put in his place. Taking a stand against hate speech and incitement to murder has nothing to do with political convictions; at least, not in my book.

The thread that was addressing the Ein El Remmaneh attacks is a live proof that when such bad elements are allowed in and without any checks, they are bound to disrupt altogether a thread if not the whole forum, and why? Your buddies insulted, belittled, derogated, and angered no one other than themselves; I just provided them with a little helping hand.

I was a member of the Lebanese Forces Forum in which the main mod is Cedars or M.N. Mods will attests that people like me have left the forum in total disgust because of such unruly elements who have little else but to barge in and insult others to the very bone marrow.
People like you have left the forum because they couldn't stand the fact that cedars would give space to people like me to voice their opinions. In fact, the kind of behavior that zehlewi, charbel, and those who congratulated them displayed here would have been the fate of the other forum had you had your way. Fortunately enough, you did not have your way; even better, you left!!

Rules are a necessity, but also when civility cannot be exercised by some members then that too becomes a serious liability from which the desire to participate by those decent members gradually dies, to the point where post fatigue takes its place.
We have a different opinion of what constitutes "decent members". In my book, decent members do not engage in hate speech, do not incite to violence and murder, and do not spew profanities right and left.

My advice is to watch closely these weird characters for the overall good of this forum, that is if it doesn't want to join the others down the drain.

    With all my respects.

I would suggest this rule be removed. This is way too general and can be twisted to mean anything. What is a "flaming post"? What constitutes "bashing"? Anything can be interpreted as flaming or bashing if the moderator is intent on silencing a member and I'm talking from experience here. I personally think that the only limitations that should apply to the freedom of expression on the forum are when a poster is engaged in any of the following:

    • racist discriminatory hate speech
    • profanities
    • incitement to violence/murder/aggression

These are well defined and easily identifiable parameters that should not be allowed expression on the forum.

It's not like most of you are posting on forums for the first time! we all have been elsewhere on the net and know how to follow the rules.
I guess the admin made it clear what rules are to follow on this site, thank you!
