    Default World Cup 2014 Thread

Missed the first couple games, but this one is a cracker: Holland 5 - Spain 1

Ike is gone, too old and too slow!
Robyn is just magic, and the other Robin is not bad at all...

Overall, Dutch delight and Spain getting older

Orange always wins. It's also the new black. Didn't you know?

Thanks for contributing to the threads.

The South Americans go nuts about soccer - and even though I, as an American, do not care for soccer - I love their commercials.

I am Aussie mate and I am fanatical about Football (Soccer) as well as so many other sports.

Back to the coverage, the socceroos (Aussie team) played Chile and went down 3-1 ; overall the socceroos were unlucky not to get a draw at least, after going down 2-0 in the first 20 minutes, the young team dominated long spells and were 2-1 down and pushing for an equaliser until a last minute counter attack put the game to rest.

I have no idea what you have just said. Is this anything like throwing a change up after a slider because your afraid that the batter will sacrifice, to help third come home?

Soccer has never taken off here in America. It is considered primarily a girls sport. While it is played in grammar school, almost no one plays it after high school. It has grown but chiefly as somthing played in school. People have tried to start soccer leagues in America. They fail or hover below the radar.

I have no idea why? As a kid I played it, but would not watch it as an adult. It is probably the perfect sport but no watches it here in America.

To me it is boring to watch, like ping pong.

I cannot figure it out. America seems impervious to soccer.

I bet few Americans know that we once hosted the World Cup. No one cares.

What I find interesting though is NOT soccer, but how it interacts with society. In South America, it spawns organized crime which intimidates the police. In England and Germany it spawned horrible violence. In Brazil, people shoot each other over soccer.

But watching a game? It is BOOORING!

The real scary game is Aussie Rules Football which is like American Football without the protective gear. You probably consider us to be wusses.

The only sport I watch in baseball; and that chiefly because it is like a chess game. You tried to guess what they are going to do next.

I suppose I root for America, but even so ...most Americans will not watch it. It will be like Yeah! We won. What did we win?

If not America, I hope Argentina or Brazil or Chile wins because they go nuts when they win and it makes for great YouTube videos as they burn down a barrio in celebration.

CA, since you know Aussie Rules, I am watching it as I type now.. I love it, it is excitement non stop; it is hard to understand for people who have never seen it before, but once they get the rules, it becomes addictive.

I will not watch a sport where maiming and murder are legitimate tactics.

then dont watch Rugby League or Rugby Union, these two are what i believe you are referring to, not Aussie Rules, which don't really involve much physical contact, we call it Aerial Pingpong here
